GCBBBALL vs Brebeuf Sect Final-118.png

Last Saturday evening, the #6 Golden Eagles played host to the #1 Brebeuf Braves in the IHSAA Sectional 27 Championship. The game did not disappoint. It would feature 6 ties, 8 lead changes, a 15 point lead, a 16-3 Braves run, and a 12 - 1 Golden Eagles run. It would require 2 overtime periods to determine the winner. The final lead change was determined with less than 1 second on the clock. With 3.5 seconds, the Golden Eagles called for a time out on their own baseline. Down 74-73, this was the moment that fans had waited for all night. With Jack Cherry '24 and Robert Sorensen '24 on the bench (fouled out earlier in the game), the inbounds pass from Malcolm Houze '25 seemed to sail towards the opposite sidelines, when Ben Grissom '24 collected the ball and threw it back over his head. Receiving the desperation pass was Houze, uncovered by the defense, who simply laid it in the basket as the clock ticked towards 0. Grissom's (who only entered the game in the final moments of the second overtime), solo stat for the evening was his game winning assist. Bryson Cardinal '25 had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Robert Sorensen had 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jack Cherry had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Dylan Murans '24 had 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist. Malcolm Houze had 11 points, and 5 assists. Andy Caron '24 had 3 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds. Julian Melendez '25 had 1 rebound. Ben Grissom had 1 assist. This is the second consecutive IHSAA Sectional 27 Championship for the Golden Eagles, third in four seasons. The Golden Eagles will travel to Greenfield Central to play Indianapolis George Washington on Saturday March 9th at 4pm. Varsity vs Brebeuf Jesuit (75 - 74) Win
