Female Athlete of the Year: Alex Soucie Alex Soucie is a two sport athlete in both soccer and lacrosse. While at Guerin Catholic, she has been part of National Honor Society, the IB Programme and Student Athletic Board. In soccer, she was a 3 year starter, garnered 1st team all-state honors along with all-conference, all-district and an IndyStar super team nomination. In addition, she was a nominee for the USA Today Indy Sports Award for Indiana girls soccer player of the year. This past fall, Soucie was the captain of the soccer team who defeated the top 3 teams during the tournament run en route to the school’s first ever state championship in girls soccer. In lacrosse, she has been a 4 year starter, a team captain, first team all-state, US Lacrosse Academic All-American and played a starring role for the back to back Girls Lacrosse State Champions. She is amongst the most decorated and accomplished student-athletes in school history as she’s been a member of 3 state titles and still has a lacrosse season to complete. Male Athlete of the Year: Leo Wessel Leo Wessel is a member of National Honor Society, participates as an altar server at St. Luke parish and has been twice named to All-State recognition. As a freshman, he started on a golf team that finished as State Runner-up by one stroke. As a sophomore, he started on a golf team that finished as State Champion by one stroke. As a junior, not only did his team defend their State Championship, but Leo shot the lowest rounds of any golfer in the field to claim the 2023 Individual Boys Golf State Championship which is the first IHSAA individual state title in school history. He has been named the Indiana Sports Awards Golfer of the Year in 2023, his average round of 73.9 is the lowest stroke average in program history and next year he is headed to the University of Cincinnati to continue his career.
