The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles Boys Varsity held on for a 3-2 win against conference rival Heritage Christian. Guerin Catholic created ample opportunities in the first half and finally broke through on a nice feed from Gavin Rieck '25 to Robbie Burt '25 to take a 1-0 lead at the 27 minute mark. Within the next 5 minutes, the Golden Eagles capitalized on another great cross by Rieck finished by a beautiful header to the back of the net by Johnny Quinn '25. Heritage Christian cut the lead in half with about 12 minutes to go in the first half, but the Golden Eagles responded quickly with a goal by Gavin Rieck to close out the first half 3-1. Guerin created several opportunities in the second half but could not find the back of the net, while Heritage Christian added their second goal off of a corner kick to close out the game. According to Coach Alvarez, "this was a conference rival match and are always tightly contested, with both teams always playing until the final whistle. We expect to see them again in our Sectionals". Next match is Saturday 8/24 against Hamilton Southeastern.
